I also solved a problem with using my wide angle lens with my camera. I’ll post some pictures of my solution later. Long and short is I did another test this time with 4 lenses on a camera with which I can easily see if I’m getting corner fall off. I’ve not processed the film yet but will post the results soon. In the meantime here are pictures of the four lenses I’m testing:

This lens came off an old 2 1/4 by 3 1/4 graphlex. From what I've read this lens is very sharp but being uncoated might be a little low contrast. This lens was bought for a 6x12 camera that I never ended up getting. I didn't realize that it would cover 4x5 till I went back over the lens write up. This lens came from a damaged Kodak Autograph camera I was given as a present a number of years ago. It sat on my shelf for a long time. Given the camera took film slightly larger then 4x5 I want to see what the look of this lens is.

The final lens is my standard 90mm.

Ok, here are the images for the test. The camera didn’t move much between shots. This is as far back as I can move the camera before I can’t focus (have a weird eye focus thing). All the film was processed in ID-11 for 87 minutes. All the shots were at F22 with flash. One thing to note though is I need to do more work making sure the whole frame is in focus as they all drop out a little. So really the middle bit if the area of comparison. Also, the Zeiss Ikon is really tight so you can see some fall off in the corners. Surprisingly the Nikkor had a bit of the same. Again this is me learning the camera. Each lens had different levels of contrast. The plasmat nikkor was great for tone but a little soft when compared to the Zeiss. That said the Zeiss, as nice as the lens is for sharpness was really low contrast. I’ve heard the lens does much better in daylight over flash so that will be my next stop. The kodak was the big surprise for me. It was a really nice lens to look at. The sharpness was fine and the fall off from focus was great. Both the 90 and the nikkor were great. The problem is my limited space so the 90 and the nikkor will most likely be the turn to lenses.

Shoot didn’t go well but that’s not the films fault. Here is one of the better images from the 6 I took. I used a yellow filter to help add a little more contrast. I also had trouble because I over closed the lens probably getting down to f64 when I was metering for F22. This means the neg is about 2 stops under exposed. I pushed the processing on three of the negs when I realized which solved the problem but left them a little grainy. Going to have to check again on the image circle size as its obvious that I missed the mark on this one. All in all a bit of a mess all round.

I’m trying something a bit different and so back to doing tests. Below are some of the images I’ve taken of a chest of draws. I’m looking at the image quality, lens quality, whether I should use a yellow filter etc. The first is a base line looking at the difference between the natural light and a flash. The flash photos are taken using a bounce off of a home made reflector.

I am getting back into using 4×5 and thought I’d take my press camera out for a stroll. So here bellow are some of the images from that day. All of these were shot with a 90mm lens (hence the camera base showing up in some of the photo) with a yellow filter. I was also using a 6 sheet grafmatic film holder so the images were also numbered. I liked working this way but it is rather hard as the lens isn’t very bright at the corners to see what I’m photographing. Still, good day with the camera.
